وَاتَّصَلَتْAnd it was connectedبِهِto himأَسْبَابَthe causesالشَّرِّof evil
And it was connected to him the causes of evil.
فَأَيُّSo whatفَلاحٍsuccessوَأَيُّand anyرَجَاءٍhopeوَأَيُّand anyعَيْشٍlifeلِمَنْfor whomانْقَطَعَتْthe causes were cut offعَنْهُfrom him
So what success, and what hope, and what life is there for one from whom the causes of good have been cut off?
وَقُطِعَAnd cut offمَاwhatبَيْنَهُis between him(۱)(1)وَبَيْنَand betweenوَلِيِّهِhis protectorوَمَوْلاهُand his lordالَّذِيwhoلَاdoes notغِنًىneedلَهُfor himعَنْهُfrom himطَرْفَةَthe blinkعَيْنٍof an eyeوَلَابُدَّand he mustلَهُfor himمِنْهُof it(۳)(3)؛;
And cut off what is between him and his protector and lord who does not need him for the blink of an eye, and he must have it.
وَلَاAnd noعَوَضٌreplacementلَهُfor himعَنْهُfrom it؛;
And no replacement for him;
وَاتَّصَلَتْAnd it was connectedبِهِto himأَسْبَابَthe causesالشَّرِّof evil
And it was connected to him the causes of evil.
وَوَصَلَAnd it reachedمَاwhatبَيْنَهُis between himوَبَيْنَand betweenأَعْدَىthe fiercestعَدُوٍّenemyلَهُto him
And it reached what is between him and his fiercest enemy.
فَتَوَلَّاهُSo it took charge of himعَدُوُّهُhis enemy,,وَتَخَلَّىand abandonedوَلِيَّهُhis protector؟?
So it took charge of him his enemy, and abandoned his protector?
فَلَاSo noتَعْلَمُone knowsنَفْسٌthe selfمَاwhatفِيis in thisالِانْقِطَاعِdisconnectionوَالاتِّصَالِand connectionمِنْofأَنْوَاعِvarious typesالْآلَامِof painوَأَنْوَاعِand typesالْعَذَابِof torment
So no one knows what is in this disconnection and connection of various types of pain and torment.
عَنْهُfrom it

قَالَHe saidبَعْضٌsomeالسَّلَفُof the predecessorsرَأَيْتُI sawالْعَبْدَthe servantمُلْقًىthrownبَيْنَbetweenاللَّهِAllahسُبْحَانَهُGlory be to Himوَبَيْنَand betweenالشَّيْطَانِthe devil،,فَإِنَّfor ifأَعْرَضَHe turned awayاللَّهُAllahعَنْهُfrom him(۳)(3)
He said: Some of the predecessors said, 'I saw the servant thrown between Allah, Glory be to Him, and the devil, for if Allah turns away from him.
تَوَلَّاهُHis devil took charge of himالشَّيْطَانُthe devil،,وَإِنْand ifتَوَلَّاهُAllah takes charge of himاللَّهُAllahلَمْdid notيَقْدِرَhe couldعَلَيْهِagainst him(٤)(4)
His devil took charge of him, and if Allah takes charge of him, the devil could not.
وَقَدْAnd itقَالَsaidتَعَالَىthe Most High۞-وَإِذْAnd whenقُلْنَاwe saidلِلْمَلَائِكَةِto the angelsاسْجُدُواprostrateلِآدَمَto Adamفَسَجَدُواand they prostratedإِلَّاexcept forإِبْلِيسَIblisكَانَhe wasمِنَofالْجِنِّthe jinnفَفَسَقَand he disobeyedعَنْfromأَمْرِthe commandرَبِّهِof his Lord
And He said: 'And when We said to the angels, prostrate to Adam, they prostrated except for Iblis, he was of the jinn and he disobeyed the command of his Lord.
أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُWill you then take himوَذُرِّيَّتَهُand his offspringأَوْلِيَاءَas alliesمِنْfromدُونِيbesides Meوَهُمْwhile they areلَكُمْfor youأَعْدُوٌّenemies?
Will you then take him and his offspring as allies besides Me while they are enemies to you?
بِئْسَWretchedلِلظَّالِمِينَfor the wrongdoersبَدَلًاis the substitute.
Wretched is the substitute for the wrongdoers.
﴿﴿الكهف/Al-Kahf/٥٠50﴾﴾
[Al-Kahf: 50]
(1)(1)فَAndقُطِعَcut offبَيْنَهُwhat is between him۔.(۲)(2)بَعْدَهُafter itفِيinسthe increasedزadditional::«وَلَاAnd noبَدَلٌchangeلَهُfor himمِنْهُfrom it.(۳)(3)زZ::«أَعْرَضَturned awayعَنْهُfrom himاللَّهُ»Allah.
(1) And cut off what is between him. (2) After it in S: And no replacement for him. (3) Z: 'He turned away from him Allah'.
(٤)(4)أَخْرَجَهُNarratedالإِمَامُby ImamأَحْمَدُAhmadفِيinالزُّهْدِasceticism(۱۳۵۳)(1353)عَنْfromمُطَرِّفٍMurtathبْنِthe sonعَبْدِ اللَّهِof Abdullahبْنِthe son ofالشُّعَيْرِ،the Sha'r.وَلَفْظُهُAnd his wording is«وَجَدْتُI foundهَذَاthisالْإِنْسَانَhumanمُلْقًىthrownبَيْنَbetweenاللَّهِAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Exaltedوَبَيْنَand betweenالشَّيْطَانِ،the devil.فَإِنَّFor ifيَعْلَمُAllah knowsفِيinقَلْبِهِhis heartخَيْرًاgoodnessيَهْدِيهِHe guides himإِلَيْهِto it.وَإِنْAnd ifلَاnotيَعْلَمُknowsفِيهِin itخَيْرًاgoodness.وَكَّلَهُHe leaves himإِلَىtoنَفْسِهِ،himself.وَمَنAnd whoeverوَكَّلَهُleaves himإِلَىtoنَفْسِهِhimselfفَقَدْhas surelyهَلَكَperished.
(4) Narrated by Imam Ahmad in asceticism (1353) from Murtath bin Abdullah al-Sha'ir and his wording is: 'I found this human thrown between Allah, the Exalted, and the devil. For if Allah knows goodness in his heart, He guides him to it, and if He does not know goodness in it, He leaves him to himself, and whoever he leaves to himself will surely perish.'
وَبِهَذَاAnd with thisالْلَّفْظِthe wordingنُقِلَwas narratedعَنْهُabout himالْمُؤَلِّفُthe authorفِيinالْمَدَارِجِthe stages
And with this wording was narrated about him by the author in the stages.
(۷۹/۳)(79/3)(ص)(p)وَسَندُهُand its chainحَسَنٌis good.وَأَخْرَجَهُAnd narratedابْنُby IbnالْمُبَارَكِMubarakفِيinالزُّهْدِasceticism(۲۹۸)(298)
(79/3) and its chain is good. And narrated by Ibn Mubarak in asceticism (298).
وَمِنْAnd fromطَرِيقِهِhis pathأَبُوAbuنَعِيمٍNa'imفِيinالْحِلْيَةِthe adornment(۲۰۱۲)(2012)
And from his path, Abu Na'im in The Adornment (2012) contributed.
وَابْنُAnd IbnعَسَاكِرَAsakirفِيinتَارِيخِهِhis history(٣٠٨/٥٨)(308/58)
And Ibn Asakir in his history (308/58) stated.
بِنَحْوِهِ،like it,وَسَندُهُand his chainصَحِيحٌis authentic.
like it, and his chain is authentic.
وَأَخْرَجَهُAnd narratedابْنُIbnأَبِيAbiالدُّنْيَاthe temporal worldفِيinمَكَائِدِthe plotsالشَّيْطَانِof the devil(٢٥)(25)
And narrated by Ibn Abi in the plots of the devil (25).
مِنْFromطَرِيقٍa pathآخَرَanotherعَنْfromمُطَرِّفٍMurtathبِنَحْوِهِin a similar manner.
