The beginning of this copy is after the Basmala and the Haqla.
مَاWhatتَقُولُdo you sayالسَّادَةُthe gentlemenالْعُلَمَاءِthe scholarsأَئِمَّةُthe Imamsالدِّينِof the religionرَضيَmay (He) be pleasedاللَّهُGodعَنْهُمwith themأَجْمَعِينَall
What do the gentlemen scholars, the Imams of the religion, may God be pleased with them all, say about a man.
ابْتُلِيَHe was afflictedبِبَلِيَّةٍwith a calamity
He was afflicted with a calamity.
فَأَجَابَThen theالشَّيْخُsheikhالإِمَامُthe Imamالعَالِمُthe scholarشَيْخُsheikhالإِسْلامِof Islamمُفْتِيُthe Muftiالْفِرَقِof the sectsشَمْسُShamsالدِّينِof the religionأَبُوAbuعَبْدِAbdاللَّهِAllah
Then the Sheikh, the Imam, the scholar, the Sheikh of Islam, the Mufti of the sects, Shams al-Din Abu Abd Allah answered.
كَتَبَتْThe copy was writtenالنُّسْخَةُthe copyبِخَطٍّin a scriptنَسْخِيٍّneatوَاضِحٍclearوَكُلُّهَاand all of itبِخَطِّin the scriptالنَّاسِخِof the scribeإِلَّاexceptوَرَقَةٍone sheetواحِدَةٍsingle(ص٢٥٧(p. 257--٢٥٨)258)
The copy was written in a neat clear script, and all of it is in the scribe's script except for one sheet (p. 257 - 258).
فَإِنَّهَاFor itبِخَطٍّis in the scriptمُغَايِرٌdifferentمُتَأَخِّرٌlater.
For it is in a different later script.
وَيَظْهَرُAnd it appearsمِنَfromالِاسْتِدْرَاكَاتِthe remarksوَكَلِمَةَand the word«بَلَغَ«was statedفِيinبَعْضِsomeالْمَوَاضِعِplaces(ص۱۷۹،(p. 179,٢١١)211)
And it appears from the remarks and the word «was stated in some places (p. 179, 211) that it was compared against the original.
وَنَجِدُAnd we findفِيinالنُّسْخَةِthe copyاهْتِمَامًاa great interestبَالِغًاsevereبِوَضْعِin placingعَلَامَةًa markلِلْدَّلَالَةِto indicateعَلَىonبِدَايَةِthe beginningفَقَرَةٍa paragraphجَدِيدَةٍnewوَقَدْand it mayيَكُونَbeذَٰلِكَthisمِنْfromعَمَلِthe workبَعْضِsomeمِنَof theقَرَأَreadالنُّسْخَةِthe copy.
And we find in the copy a great interest in placing a mark to indicate the beginning of a new paragraph, and this may be from the work of some who read the copy.
وَقَدْAndعَلَّقَone commentedأَحَدُoneالْقُرَّاءِof the readersأَيْضًاalsoعَلَىonالنُّسْخَةِthe copyفَصَحَّحَand correctedوَاسْتَدْرَكَand notedلَكِنَّهُbut heوَمِنْand from
And one of the readers also commented on the copy, and corrected and noted, but he.
هُوَheأَيْضًاalsoتَصَرَّفَactedبَعْضَsomeالأَحْيَانِof the timesفِيinالْمَتَنِthe textلِإِصْلاَحِto correctمَاwhatخَيَّلَseemedإِلَيْهِto himأَنَّهُthat itخَطَأٌwas an error.
He also acted at times in the text to correct what seemed to him to be an error.
أَمْثِلَةٌExamplesذَلِكَof thatأَنَّهُthatوَرَدَit was mentionedفِيinالنُّسْخَةِthe copy(ص١٤٩):(p. 149):«بَلْ"Ratherاجْعَلُواmakeنَظَرَهُhis gazeتَفَرُّجًاa viewingوَاسْتِحْسَانًاand a likingوَالشَّهْوَةَand lust.فَمَحَاSo he erasedلَامَthe articleالتَّعْرِيفِthe definitionمِنْfromكَلِمَةِthe word«الشَّهْوَةِ»"the lust"وَوَضَعَand placedعَلَيْهَاon itتَنَوِينًاthe tanweenالْفَتْحَةَof the fat-ha:«شَهْوَةٌ،"lust,"لِيَصِحَّto validlyعَطْفَهَاconjoin itعَلَىtoمَاwhatقَبْلَهَاwas before it.
Examples of that are that it was mentioned in the copy (p. 149): "Rather make his gaze a viewing and a liking and lust." So he erased the article from the word "the lust" and placed on it the tanween of the fat-ha: "lust," to validly conjoin it to what was before it.
وَلَوْAnd ifرَجَعَhe had referredإِلَىtoنُسْخَةٍanother copyأُخْرَىanotherمِنَofالْكِتَابِthe bookلَتَبَيَّنَit would become clearلَهُto himأَنَّthatفِيinنُسْخَتِهِhis copyسَقْطًاthere is a missing partوَالصَّوَابَand the correct
And if he had referred to another copy of the book, it would become clear to him that in his copy there is a missing part.
اسْتِحْسَانًاa liking(وَتَلَهّيًا)(and distraction).فَإِنْFor ifاسْتَرَقَhe stoleنَظْرَةًa glanceعِبْرَةًa lessonفَأَفْسَدُوهَاthey spoiled itعَلَيْهِupon himبِنَظَرٍwith a gazeالْغَفْلَةِof negligenceوَالاِسْتِحْسَانِand likingوَالشَّهْوَةِand lust.
For if he stole a glance of a lesson, they spoiled it for him with a gaze of negligence, liking, and lust.
وَقَدْAndسَقَطَit was omittedمَاwhatبَيْنَwas betweenالْقَوْسَيْنِthe bracketsلِانتِقَالِdue to the transitionنَظَرof sightالنَّاسِخِof the scribe.
And what was omitted between the brackets was due to the transition of sight of the scribe.
وَمِنْAnd amongذَٰلِكَthatأَيْضًاalsoأَنَّهُthat itوَرَدَwas mentionedفِيinالنُّسْخَةِthe copy(ص١٥٦):(p. 156):(وَمِنْهُم(And among themمَنْwhoيَكُونَisسُلْطَانٌthe Sultanالْغَضَبِof angerعَلَيْهِupon himأَغْلَبٌ،dominant,"فَغَيَّرَhe changedكَلِمَةَthe word«سُلْطَانٍ»"Sultan"إِلَىto«شَيْطَانٍ،"Satan,"مَعَwithوُرُودِthe mentionمِثْلِهِlike itفِيinالسَّطْرِthe lineالسَّابِقِpreceding: :وَandسُلْطَانُthe Sultanغَضَبِهِof his angerضَعِيفٌis weak.
And among that is that it was mentioned in the copy (p. 156): (And among them is who has the Sultan of anger dominant," he changed the word "Sultan" to "Satan," with the mention of like it in the preceding line: and the Sultan of his anger is weak.
