قَالَHe saidالْمُفَسِّرُونَthe interpreters::نَزَلَتThis verse was revealedهَذِهِthisالْآيَةُverseفِيinالْوَلِيدِAl-WalidبِـbinعُقْبَةَUqbah,,بَعَثَهُHe sent himرَسُولَthe Messengerاللَّهِof Allahﷺ(peace be upon him)إِلَىtoبَنِيthe tribe ofالْمُصَطَلَقِAl-Mustalaqلِيَقْبِضَto collectصَدَقَاتِهِمtheir alms,,وَقَدْand there wasكَانَتْit wasبَيْنَهُbetween himوَبَيْنَهُمْand between themعَدَاوَةٌan enmityفِيinالْجَاهِلِيَّةِthe days of ignorance,,فَسَارَhe traveledبَعْضَsomeالطَّرِيقِof the wayثُمَّthenرَجَعَhe returnedإِلَىtoرَسُولِthe Messengerاللَّهِof Allahﷺ(peace be upon him)فَقَالَand he said::إِنَّهُمْIndeed, theyمَنَعُواpreventedالصَّدَقَةَthe almsوَأَرَادُواand they wantedقَتْلِيto kill me,,فَضَرَبَso the Messenger struckرَسُولَthe Messengerاللَّهِof Allahﷺ(peace be upon him)الْبَعَثَthe expeditionإِلَيْهِمto them,,فَنَزَلَتْthen this verse was revealedهَذِهِthisالْآيَةُverse.
The interpreters said: This verse was revealed regarding Al-Walid bin Uqbah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him to the tribe of Al-Mustalaq to collect their alms, and there was enmity between him and them in the days of ignorance. He traveled some of the way and then returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Indeed, they prevented the alms and wanted to kill me. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent the expedition to them, and then this verse was revealed.
وَهَذِهِAnd thisالْقِصَّةُstoryمَعْرُوفَةٌis well knownمِنْfromوُجُوهٍmany aspectsكَثِيرَةٍnumerous,,ثُمَّthenقَالَHe saidتَعَالَىthe Exaltedفِيinتَمَامِهَاits completion::﴿(“},{
And this story is well known from many aspects. Then He said the Exalted in its completion: "And know that among you is the Messenger of Allah, if he obeyed you in many of the matters, you would have succeeded. (Surah Al-Hujurat: 7)" And He said the Exalted: "(“},{
وَإِنْAnd ifطَائِفَتَانِtwo groupsمِنَofالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersاقْتَتَلُواfightفَأَصْلِحُواthen make peaceبَيْنَهُمَاbetween themفَإِنْifبَغَتْone of them transgressesإِحْدَتُهُمَاagainst the otherعَلَىonالْأُخْرَى)the other﴿(“},{
And if two groups of the believers fight, then make peace between them. If one of them transgresses against the other... (Surah Al-Hujurat: 9)
ثُمَّThenنَهَاهُمْHe prohibited themعَنْfromأَنْthatيَسْخَرُواthey mockبَعْضَهُمْsome of themبِبَعْضٍwith others,,وَعَنْand fromاللَّمْزِbackbitingوَالتَّنَابُزِand rivalryبِالْأَلْقَابِby nicknamesوَقَالَand he said::يَتَسَاءَلُIt is evilالِاسْمُthe nameالْفُسُوقِthe immoralityبَعْدَafterالْإِيمَانِthe faith))﴿(“},{
Then He prohibited them from mocking one another and from backbiting and the rivalry by nicknames. And He said: "It is evil to be called by those nicknames after the Faith."
وَقَدْAnd there isقِيلَit has been said::مَعْنَاهُIts meaning isلَاdo notتُسَمُّوهُcall himفَاسِقًاimmoralوَلَاnorكَافِرًاdisbelieverبَعْدَafterإِيمَانِهِhis faith,,وَهَذَاand thisضَعِيفٌis weak,,بَلْratherالْمُرَادُthe intentionبِئْسَwhat a terribleالْاسْمُnameأَنْthatتَكُونُواyou beفُسَّاقًاimmoralبَعْدَafterإِيمَانِكُمْyour faith,,كَمَاasقَالَhe saidتَعَالَىthe Exaltedفِيinالَّذِيwhatكَذَّبَlied:: “},{
And it has been said: Its meaning is do not call him immoral nor disbeliever after his faith, and this is weak. Rather, the intention is what a terrible name it is for you to be immoral after your faith, as He said the Exalted about the one who lied: "When a disobedient person brings you news, verify it..."
إِنَّIndeedجَاءَكُمْcomes to youفَاسِقٌan immoral personبِنَبَأٍwith newsفَتَبيَّنُواthen verify.فَسَمَّاهُSo he called him immoral..
Indeed, when an immoral person comes to you with news, then verify it. So he called him immoral.
الصَّحِيحَيْنِIn the two Sahihsعَنْaboutالنَّبِيِّthe Prophetﷺ(peace be upon him)أَنَّهُthat heقَالَsaid::سَبَّابُThe insultالْمُسْلِمِof a Muslimفُسُوقٌis immoralityوَقَاتِلُهُand fighting himكُفْرٌis disbelief.,,يَقُولُHe says::فَإِذَاSo ifسَابَّتُمyou insultedالْمُسْلِمَthe Muslimوَسَخِرْتُمْand mocked himمِنْهُfrom himوَلَمَزْتُمُوهُand backbiting himاسْتَحْقَقْتُمُyou deserveأَنْto be calledفُسَّاقًاimmoral..
In the two Sahihs about the Prophet ﷺ, it is said: "The insult of a Muslim is immorality, and fighting him is disbelief." He says: "So if you insulted the Muslim and mocked him and backbiting him, you deserved to be called immoral."
وَقَدْAndقَالَhe saidفِيinآيَةِthe verseالْقَذْفِof slander﴿(“},{
And he said in the verse of slander: "...
