وَفَسَادًاand corruption

And corruption

١٤14--التَّوْرَاةُThe Torah

14 - The Torah

وَأَرَادَAnd willedاللّٰهُAllahأَنْthatلَاnotيَضِيعَperishبَنُوthe childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israelكَمَاasضَاعَتْperishedأُمَمٌnationsبِغَيْرِwithoutكِتَابٍa book

And Allah willed that the children of Israel should not perish as nations perished without a book.

وَهُدًىand guidanceمِنْfromاللّٰهِAllah.

And guidance from Allah.

وَأَرَادَAnd willedأَنْthatلَاnotيَخْبِطُواthey should stumbleخَبْطَstumblingعَشْوَاءَblindlyكَمَاasخَبَطَتْstumbledأُمَمٌnationsخَبْطَstumblingعَشْوَاءَblindly.

And He willed that they should not stumble blindly as nations stumbled blindly.

أَمَرَCommandedاللّٰهُAllahمُوسَىMosesأَنْtoيَتَطَهَّرَpurify himselfوَأَنْand toيَصُومَfastثَلَاثِينَthirtyيَوْمًا،days,ثُمَّthenيَأْتِيَto comeإِلَىtoطُورِMountسِينَا،Sinai,حَتَّىso thatيُكَلِّمَهُHe may speak to himرَبُّهُhis Lordوَيَتَلَقَّىand receiveكِتَابًاa bookيَكُونُthat will beلَهُمُfor themالْإِمَامَ.the guide.

Allah commanded Moses to purify himself and to fast for thirty days, then to come to Mount Sinai, so that his Lord may speak to him and he may receive a book that will be a guide for them.

اخْتَارَChoseمُوسَىMosesمِنْfromقَوْمِهِhis peopleسَبْعِينَseventyرَجُلًاmenيَكُونُونَto beعَلَىonذٰلِكَthatمِنَfromالشَّاهِدِينَ،the witnesses,لِأَنَّbecauseبَنِيthe childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israelقَوْمٌare a peopleجُحُودٍ.of denial.

Moses chose seventy men from his people to be witnesses to that, because the children of Israel are a people of denial.

وَقَالَAnd saidمُوسَىMosesلِأَخِيهِto his brotherهَارُونَ:Aaron:اخْلُفْنِيBe my successorفِيamongقَوْمِيmy peopleوَأَصْلِحْand do goodوَلَاand do notتَتَّبِعْfollowسَبِيلَthe wayالْمُفْسِدِينَ.of the corrupters.لِأَنَّforالْجَمَاعَةَthe communityلَاnotبَدَّavoidلَهَاfor itمِنْfromإِمَامٍ.a leader.

And Moses said to his brother Aaron: 'Be my successor among my people, and do good, and do not follow the way of the corrupters. For the community cannot avoid having a leader.'

سَارَWentمُوسَىMosesلِمِيقَاتِfor the appointed timeرَبِّهِ،of his Lord,وَلَكِنَّهُbutحَنَّهُhe longedالشَّوْقُthe longingإِلَىtoرَبِّهِhis Lordفَتَعَجَّلَso he hurriedوَسَبَقَand went aheadإِلَىtoالطُّورِ.the Mount.

Moses went for the appointed time of his Lord, but he longed for his Lord, so he hurried and went ahead to the Mount.

قَالَSaidاللّٰهُ:Allah:وَمَاAnd whatأَعْجَلَكَhastened youعَنْfromقَوْمِكَyour peopleيَامُوسَىٰ؟O Moses?قَالَ:He said:هُمْTheyأُولَاءِare hereعَلَىٰuponأَثَرِىmy trackوَعَجِلْتُand I hastenedإِلَيْكَto Youرَبِّmy Lordلِتَرْضَىٰ.that You may be pleased.

Allah said: 'And what hastened you from your people, O Moses?' He said: 'They are here upon my track, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You may be pleased.'

وَأَمَرَهُAnd commanded himاللّٰهُAllahأَنْtoيُتِمَّcompleteمِيقَاتَthe appointed timeرَبِّهِof his Lordأَرْبَعِينَfortyلَيْلَةً.nights.

And Allah commanded him to complete the appointed time of his Lord, forty nights.
